3.4.1 Fire extinguishers
The boat must be equipped with three UL classified 5-B:C (or greater) hand-held fire extinguishers that are tested by a US Coast Guard-recognized independent laboratory and marked "Marine Type – USCG Approved".
The location of the fire extinguishers is marked by a symbol, see Safety labels.
You are responsible for checking regularly that each fire extinguisher is up to date and in serviceable working condition. Make sure that:
The current date does not exceed the cylinder date stamp by more than 12 years. You must remove the fire extinguisher from service no later than December 31 of the 12th year.
If a pressure gauge is applied, the reading or indicator must be in the operable range.
The operating handle lock pin is firmly in place.
The spray nozzle is clean and free from obstructions.
The extinguisher has no visible signs of significant corrosion or damage.
Be aware that the fire extinguishers are not included in the manufacturer's delivery. Consult your local boat dealer for further information.
